Becuase everytime i unsubscribe and resubscribe, steam downloads the mods but they arent in the folder and dont appear. Anybody out there with a fix? EDIT: I think it is the new steam update. Guess GOG users are not allowed to use mods for that game.
'I think it's not actually possible to use a downloader for newer steam workshop stuff, because it uses the same download depot system for mods as for games. It all goes through the steam client now.
In the past the steam workshop used to use a different system where the game itself would download mods using an API, which I think is what that steam workshop downloader is trying to use. '

Ah ok. so.. vendor lock in completed. Congratulations you guys.
This is nothing to do with Steam Downloader and the API, and everything to do with the publisher of the game not enabling those who don't own the game on Steam to download workshop mods.
The API Steam downloader (and similar web pages and tools) uses is a web-based API - it never had anything to do with the game itself.

How To Install Mods On Steam Games

If you want a mod that's currently 'locked' for you because you don't have it on Steam, your options are:
1) Contact the publisher of the game and get them to unlock it (this sometimes works - Klei unlocked Invisible Inc workshop mods for example).
2) See if the mod is available elsewhere, such as Moddb or NexusMods - if not, contact the developer of the mod and get them to get their shit together.
3) Buy the game on Steam.
I suspect that Steam 'locks' the workshop by default, which is why newer games tend to often not be accessible via the downloader - meaning it's up to the game's publisher to explicitly set the workshop to be available.

If I would have known this earlier, I would never had bought this game over GOG but over Steam.
Also, the connecting to other people is a big problem.
Do someone know if one can get a refund for a transfer to Steam from the Publisher?
But I learnt my lesson, I will only buy singleplayer games or games with internal multiplayer management on GOG, but never ever games that:
- need a infrastructure for mods
- have their multiplayer outsourced to the distribution platform

Hello everyone.
Considering that this thread is still relatively active. and a top result on google as well.
The website www.steamworkshopdownloader.io has now officially been updated to support many more games.
Any game that doesn't explicitly disable 'anonymous game server downloads' should be working now.
If your game still doesn't work, see if you can get the game developer to enable this setting.
Enjoy!

The technicalities:
We are no longer just relying on the outdated 'Steam Web API' (also known as the ISteamRemoteStorage interface) to retrieve files. Most download tools rely on this.
Using a large pool of steam clients, we were able to automate file retrieval of games that use the newer 'User Generated Content API' (also known as the ISteamUGC interface). So many more modern games are supported by our website.
(so please be aware of any website that claims 'not to be allowed to download files'- it may actually just be lacking support for the newer API)

Hey guys, I've been seeing quite a few people asking if there's anyway to accomplish this. So I figured i would write how to get it done here for anyone that wants to do it.

First step is to download SteamCMD. This is a tool generally used to host/Update dedicated servers. Though for this we can use it download mods, too.

Here's the official link for SteamCMD. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD#Downloading_SteamCMD

After it's downloaded and extracted go ahead and run SteamCMD.exe. This will pull up a command prompt window that looks like this. https://i.imgur.com/oDFjpBV.png

Here's where we actually get to download the mods.

In the SteamCMD window type 'login anonymous' without the quotes. If done properly you'll see the following.

Connecting anonymously to Steam Public..Logged in OK Waiting for user info..OK

Now that we have logged in it's time to lookup Divinity 2 Original Sin on https://steamdb.info/ so we can find the AppID of the game. This ID changes every time the game is updated so you'll have to re look it up whenever there is an update.

As of right now the current AppID is 435150.

The next thing we do is lookup the mod that we want to get off of steam. Let's head on over to the steam website to find a mod we want. https://steamcommunity.com/app/435150/workshop/

Say we want a newer mod that's only on the steam workshop. Let's get 'Tempest Class (New Spear Skills)', which we can find here. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1140405351&searchtext=.

In the link above you'll notice that there is a section called 'id=1140405351' in the url. We only want to focus on the numbers here, though. This is what we'll use in SteamCmd.

So as of now we have the two main bits of info we need. The AppID which is 435150 and the workshop mod id which is 1140405351.

Hop back over to SteamCMD and type the following

Without

Download Mods From Steam

Install usb device windows 10. workshop_download_item 435150 1140405351

The first part of the above tells steam we want to download a workshop mod. The second part is the game we want the mod for. The last part is the Id of the mod so it knows which one to download.

Steam Mods Without Steam

If done correctly you should see the following

Success. Downloaded item 1140405351 to 'C:steamcmdsteamappsworkshopcontent4351501140405351' (2542744 bytes)

Of course the above location will change based on where you have SteamCmd located. Within the SteamCmd folder where the executable is located let's go into the directory steamcmdsteamappsworkshopcontent435150. The last bit of numbers will change with the Divinity 2 Original Sin AppID.

Within this folder is where all the mods you download will go. If you followed my instructions above to test you'll notice there is a folder in here that has the same name as the workshop mod id. Inside of this folder you will find the mod.

Have fun guys, if anything isn't clear let me know and i'll try to clear it up.
